Communities at heart of radical reforms to promote sustainability, fairness & transparency.

Land Reform Minster Aileen McLeod has pledged to end “the stop start nature of historic land reform” with the publication of legislation today.
The Bill is designed to ensure the issues of fairness, equality and social justice connected to the ownership of, access to and use of land in Scotland are given a permanent footing with the creation of a Scottish Land Commission.

MSPs pass Community Empowerment Bill

The Scottish Parliament has approved a bill giving communities the right to buy land or buildings in their area.

Passed by MSPs yesterday, the Community Empowerment Bill will give communities more rights to take over land in both urban and rural areas – this could include transforming waste ground into community gardens or bringing empty shops back into use.
